FAQs

A consultation will always be provided before any treatment, but it may be possible to the the treatment during the same appointment.

A topical anaesthetic may be applied to the skin before some treatments such as dermal fillers, to reduce discomfort. Some treatments do not require any anesthetic as the discomfort is minimal and short-lived.

It depends on the treatment you are having, but we can discuss further during your consultation.

Some treatments such as dermal fillers, the results are immediate. Toxin treatments usually take several days to take effect. Other treatments such as chemical peels, micro-needling, hair restoration, and IPL may require a course of treatments to take effect.

The dermal fillers used at Beautoxicology are not permanent; they are temporary cosmetic treatments that typically last several months to a couple of years, depending on the type of filler used. We use only premium brand fillers such as Stylage, Teoxane, Juvederm and Neauvia. The choice of filler depends on the indication we are treating. Our fillers are mostly hyaluronic acid but we also sometimes use hybrid fillers containing both HA and calcium hydroxylapetite.

If you don't want dermal fillers, there are several alternative treatments you can consider, depending on your specific goals and concerns. Some options include:

1. Botulinum toxin: These injectables can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines by relaxing the muscles that cause them.

2. Polynucleotides : this treatment involves injecting polydeoxyribonucleotide into the skin to stimulate collagen production, improve skin texture, and reduce signs of aging.

3. Chemical peels: Chemical peels can improve skin texture and tone by removing damaged outer layers of skin.

4. Microneedling: This procedure involves tiny needles to stimulate collagen production and improve skin texture and appearance.

5. Profhilo: Profhilo is a hyaluronic acid-based treatment that hydrates the skin, improves elasticity, and helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

6. Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF): PRF therapy uses your blood's own platelets to stimulate collagen production and rejuvenate the skin, making it a natural and effective option for skin enhancement.

7. Topical skincare products: High-quality skincare products with active ingredients can be effective in maintaining and improving skin health.

Chemical peels work by applying a solution to the skin, which causes controlled exfoliation. This process removes dead skin cells, stimulates collagen production, and can improve skin texture, tone, and clarity. The specific peel and its depth are tailored to individual skin concerns and goals. The following is a list of skin concerns which may benefit from chemical peels.

1. Acne and Acne Scarring: Chemical peels can help unclog pores, reduce inflammation, and improve the appearance of acne scars.

2. Hyperpigmentation: Peels can lighten dark spots and even out skin tone by inhibiting melanin production.

3. Fine Lines and Wrinkles: Chemical peels stimulate collagen production, which can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, promoting smoother skin.

4. Sun Damage: Peels can target sun-damaged skin, addressing issues like sunspots and uneven pigmentation caused by prolonged sun exposure.

5. Uneven Texture: By removing the outer layer of dead skin cells, chemical peels can improve skin texture, making it smoother and more refined.

6. Enlarged Pores: Peels can help minimize the appearance of enlarged pores by promoting cellular turnover and clearing out debris from the skin.

7. Dull Complexion: Chemical peels can revitalize dull-looking skin, providing a brighter and more radiant complexion.

Yes, dermal fillers can be used to address jowls by adding volume to specific areas of the face. Injecting fillers strategically can help lift and tighten the skin around the jawline, reducing the appearance of sagging or drooping in the jowl area. However, the effectiveness of fillers may vary, and individual results depend on factors like the type of filler used, the skill of the practitioner, and the extent of jowl sagging. We offer a comprehensive consultation at both our Tynemouth and March clinics to discuss your specific concerns and determine the most appropriate treatment plan.

Yes, professional microneedling can be worth it for various skincare concerns. Microneedling involves using tiny needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin, stimulating collagen and elastin production. This process can improve skin texture, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, minimise scarring, and enhance overall skin tone. Professional microneedling is typically performed by trained practitioners, ensuring safety and optimal results. However, individual experiences may vary, and it's crucial to consult with a qualified skincare professional to assess your specific needs and determine if microneedling is the right option for you. Microneedling is often used in combination with other treatments such as iPRF or even exosomes to enhance the benefits.

We offer microneedling at both our Tynemouth and March clinics.

Lip fillers are often mistakenly thought to migrate, but in reality, issues arise more from product placement, choice, and volume. Skilled practitioners consider muscle dynamics, selecting appropriate fillers and placing them strategically to achieve natural-looking results. Rarely is true migration the cause; instead, achieving optimal outcomes and natural looking results relies on the expertise of the practitioner, mindful product selection, and precise injection techniques. Your journey to perfect lips cannot be rushed. You may need several sessions to get to your desired result, giving time for the tissue to expand slowly and in a more controlled fashion.

Lip fillers can help to disguise a gummy smile in some instances. By increasing the volume of the upper lip the gingival tissue (gum) is further concealed.

Excessive gum display in a smile, commonly known as a gummy smile, can result from various factors. Genetic predisposition may lead to individuals being born with an abundance of gum tissue visible during a smile. Additionally, a hyperactive upper lip muscle can contribute to the elevation of the lip, revealing more gums than desired. A shorter-than-average upper lip and misalignment of teeth or jaws are also known factors. Medications or certain conditions may prompt gum tissue overgrowth, while abnormal tooth eruption can create an uneven gum line. Though not a severe medical issue, a gummy smile can cause self-consciousness, and fortunately, there are corrective options available, including fillers and botulinum toxin injections.

Polynucleotides are considered safe, but as with all procedures there are some risks if treatment protocols are incorrectly adhered to or post procedure advice is not followed. infection control procedures should be meticulously followed to reduce the risk of infection. some swelling, redness and bruising at the site of injection should be expected.

Polynucleotides are a regenerative medicine tool and not a skin booster. Polynucleotides increase fibroblast production and activity, leading to increased collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid, which, in turn,  regenerates the skin reversing ageing, reduces scars, hyperpigmenmtation and inflammation.

The simple answer is no. If it was to be inadvertantly injected into a blood vessel it is unlikely to cause any untoward effects.

If you have any allergies, including allergy to fish, it is important to discuss with your medical professional. The Polynucleotides used at our clinic are highly purified and have not been shown to cause reactions in individuals allergic to fish.

Polynucleotides, are a type of substance used in medical injectables for various purposes. They are derived from salmon or trout DNA, which is a fundamental genetic material in all living organisms. In the context of medical injectables, polynucleotides have several potential applications:

1. Tissue Repair and Regeneration: stimulation of the body's natural regenerative processes. When injected into damaged or injured tissues, it can help accelerate the healing process. This makes it valuable in the treatment of conditions like chronic wounds, musculoskeletal injuries, and even in orthopedic and sports medicine.

2. Anti-Inflammatory Properties:Polynucleotides have anti-inflammatory effects, which can be beneficial for conditions involving inflammation, such as rosacea.

3. Skin Healing and Scar Reduction: In dermatology and plastic surgery, Polynucleotides can be used to promote skin healing and reduce scarring. It is applied in cases of burns, surgical scars, and skin conditions where tissue regeneration is required.

4. Dermatology and Hair Restoration: Polynucleotides are used for aesthetic and therapeutic purposes, including treatments for hair loss and skin rejuvenation.

These applications make polynucleotides a versatile substance in the field of medical injectables, aiding in the healing and regeneration of tissues and offering potential benefits for various medical and aesthetic conditions.

Anywhere you have skin!

It can also be used for tissue regeneration in the event of skin injury for example post adverse vascular event (venous occlusion) following fillers.

its a recognised treatment for reversing hair lossand is a fantastic adjunct to hair transplant treatment.

Yes! Polynucleotides reduce inflammation, making them a great treatment for Rosacea.

Yes, Botox injections are generally considered safe when administered by trained and qualified medical professionals. However, like any medical procedure, there can be potential risks and side effects. It's crucial to consult with a licensed healthcare provider to discuss your individual health history and ensure Botox is a suitable option for you.

Botox, or Botulinum toxin, functions by inhibiting the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter responsible for muscle contraction. When injected, Botox interferes with the transmission of signals from nerves to muscles, leading to temporary muscle paralysis. This relaxation of targeted muscles diminishes wrinkles and facial lines. It primarily affects dynamic wrinkles caused by repetitive muscle movements. Over time, as the nerve signals gradually return, the effects of Botox wear off, necessitating follow-up injections for sustained results.

Botox is not typically used for treating undereye bags. It's more suitable for addressing dynamic wrinkles caused by muscle movement. For undereye bags, a surgical approach may be most appropriate. Non surgical options include improving the skin quality through topicals, skin boosters such as polynucleotides, microneedling and PRP.

Yes, Botox can be used to help lift the eyebrows by relaxing the muscles that pull them downward. It's a popular non-surgical option for a subtle brow lift and reducing forehead wrinkles. Its important to note that the results are temporary, typically lasting a few months. Additionally, the degree of lift may vary, and it might not be as dramatic as surgical options. Individual responses can differ, and a consultation with our qualified professionals can provide more insights into specific treatment limitations.

While headaches are a potential side effect of Botox, they are generally mild and temporary. In fact, some individuals have reported a reduction in headache frequency after Botox treatments. If you experience persistent or severe headaches post-treatment, it's advisable to consult with your healthcare provider to determine the cause and explore appropriate solutions.

Botox injections are classified as prescription-only medicines. Therefore, they should be administered by qualified healthcare professionals, such as doctors, dentists, or nurse prescribers, who have undergone specific training in cosmetic procedures. In the UK, However, regulations also permit non-medical, or "lay," injectors to administer Botox. A face-to-face consultation with a prescriber, such as a doctor or nurse prescriber, is a legal requirement before the treatment. This ensures a thorough assessment of your individual needs, medical history, and suitability for the procedure, contributing to a safer and more tailored Botox experience. Always verify the credentials and licensing of your chosen practitioner to guarantee a professional and regulated service.

Dermal fillers are generally safe when administered by trained professionals. However, as with any medical procedure, there are potential risks and side effects. It's crucial to consult with a qualified healthcare provider, discuss your medical history, and ensure that dermal fillers are suitable for your individual needs and conditions.

Possible risks associated with dermal fillers include bruising, swelling, redness, and tenderness at the injection site. Rarely, there may be allergic reactions,  infections or nodule formation. While uncommon, more severe complications with dermal fillers may include adverse vascular events (venous occlusion). This occurs when filler inadvertently enters blood vessels, potentially leading to tissue damage or loss. In rare cases, severe complications like stroke or blindness have been reported. It underscores the importance of seeking experienced healthcare professionals who follow proper injection techniques and understand the anatomy to minimise the risk of such complications. Always discuss potential risks thoroughly with your practitioner before opting for dermal filler treatments.

It's essential to follow post-treatment care instructions, and disclose any pre-existing conditions or medications to minimise potential risks. Always consult with a qualified healthcare professional for personalised advice and a thorough understanding of the risks associated with dermal filler treatments.

Dermal fillers have varying durations based on their composition. Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers typically last around 6 to 18 months, Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) stimulates collagen production, offering longer-lasting results, often up to 2 years. Polycaprolactone (PCL) fillers have a similar collagen-stimulating effect and can last up to 2 years. Calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHa) fillers also stimulate collagen and may last around 12 to 18 months. However, individual factors like metabolism and the specific area of injection can influence the duration of the filler's effectiveness. The choice depends on individual preferences, treatment goals, and the specific area being addressed. Always consult with a qualified practitioner to determine the most suitable option for your needs.

Dermal fillers generally stay in the injected area, but incorrect placement, overfilling, or injection into specific structures like the Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System (SMAS) can lead to unwanted movement. This can cause asymmetry, lumpiness, or migration of the filler. To mitigate these risks, it's crucial to choose an experienced practitioner who understands facial anatomy and employs precise injection techniques. Clear communication about desired outcomes and regular follow-ups can help address any concerns and ensure optimal results.

Lip fillers, typically made of hyaluronic acid, are not permanent and will naturally break down over time. They are generally considered to last somewhere between six to eighteen months. Whilst the duration varies among individuals, recent studies on dermal fillers, suggests that their longevity may exceed previous expectations, and, can in fact, be present for many years.  Factors like metabolism, lifestyle, and the specific product used can influence how long the filler remains effective. If you have concerns about the longevity of your lip filler, consulting with your provider is recommended for personalised information based on your unique circumstances.

While extremely rare, there have been reported cases of blindness associated with lip filler injections. Blindness resulting from lip filler injections is typically associated with inadvertent injection into a blood vessel, specifically an artery. When filler material travels through the vasculature it can obstruct a branch of the ophthalmic artery, which supplies blood to the eye, it can lead to compromised blood flow and, in rare cases, blindness. This emphasises the critical importance of precise injection techniques and an in-depth understanding of facial vascular anatomy and complications management by practitioners. Choosing a skilled and experienced professional reduces the risk of complications and ensures a safer cosmetic procedure.

Cheek filler can improve the appearance of mild to moderate jowls by addressing lost volume in the midface. The filler's mode of action involves replacing lost volume, creating the illusion of lift without physically lifting the skin. While it may enhance contours and contribute to a more lifted appearance, for significant jowl correction, additional procedures like a facelift may be recommended. Consult with our skilled practitioners to discuss the most effective treatment plan tailored to your individual needs.

Cheek filler typically settles within 2 to 4 weeks after the procedure. During this time, any initial swelling or minor asymmetry should subside, allowing you to appreciate the final results. It's essential to follow post-treatment care instructions and attend any recommended follow-up appointments to ensure optimal and long-lasting outcomes.

Yes, you can expect to see immediate results after getting cheek filler. However, there may be temporary swelling or minor bruising that could affect the initial appearance. The full and settled outcome will become more apparent as any initial side effects subside, typically within a few weeks.

Our skilled practitioners use a fine needle or cannula to inject a hyaluronic acid-based filler into targeted areas of the cheeks.Although it's not a particularly painful procedure, an anaesthetic (numbing) cream is applied to the skin prior to the procedure. The filler adds volume, enhancing contours and addressing lost fullness. The procedure usually takes about 30 minutes, and you can resume normal activities soon after with minimal downtime. Consult with our team for personalised information based on your specific needs.

Cheek filler can sometimes help improve the appearance of under-eye bags indirectly. The formation of eye bags is sometimes linked to a loss of volume in the midface, which cheek filler can address. By restoring volume to the cheeks, the filler can create a more balanced and lifted look, reducing the prominence of under-eye bags.

However, it's crucial to note that using filler directly under the eyes may not always be advisable. In some cases, it can exacerbate the appearance of bags by causing additional puffiness or uneven contours. Understanding the individual anatomy and consulting with our experienced practitioners will help determine the most appropriate approach for achieving natural and harmonious results tailored to your specific needs.

The simple answer is no! There is no solid evidence establishing a direct correlation between filler usage and cancer. Recently there had been a flurry of misleading articles and social media posts which causes unnecessary worry and fear.

Research disclosed at the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons Annual Conference hints at a potential risk of lymphatic system blockage, but does not go as far as identifying a direct link to cancer, from dermal filler.

Skin tags are typically benign and often caused by friction, where skin rubs against skin or clothing. They commonly develop in areas with folds or creases, such as the neck, underarms, or groin. Hormonal changes, particularly during pregnancy, and genetic factors may also contribute to their formation. While skin tags are generally harmless, it's advisable to consult a healthcare professional if you have concerns or wish to explore removal options for cosmetic reasons. At BEAU toxicology, we are able to remove most skin tags.

Yes, in some cases, skin tags may naturally fall off on their own. Factors such as friction, clothing, and hygiene practices can contribute to their detachment. However, it's not guaranteed for all skin tags, and some may persist. If you're considering removing a skin tag or have concerns about changes in your skin, it's advisable to consult with a healthcare professional for proper evaluation and guidance on safe removal methods. At BEAU toxicology we are able to remove most skin tags.

Skin tags are small, soft, flesh-colored or slightly darker growths that typically hang off the skin by a narrow stalk. They often have a smooth or slightly wrinkled surface and can vary in size, ranging from a few millimeters to a few centimeters. While they are generally harmless, it's essential to distinguish skin tags from other skin conditions, and if there's uncertainty, consulting a healthcare professional for proper diagnosis is recommended.

If a skin tag turns black, it may indicate that it is no longer receiving blood flow, a process known as necrosis. This can happen if the blood vessels supplying the skin tag become constricted or twisted. While this change in color is not always a cause for concern, it's essential to monitor any unusual changes in skin tags. If you notice significant changes, such as persistent pain, swelling, or if the skin tag appears infected, it's advisable to seek medical advice for proper evaluation and guidance on appropriate next steps.

Skin tags are generally painless, but if a skin tag becomes irritated, twisted, or snagged on clothing or jewelry, it may cause discomfort or pain. In such cases, it's advisable to avoid further irritation, and if the pain persists or if you have concerns about the skin tag, consulting with a healthcare professionalsuch as ourselves, can provide guidance on appropriate care or removal options.

Yes, you can have a skin tag removed. There are various methods for removal, including professional medical procedures performed by dermatologists or healthcare providers. These methods may include cutting, freezing (cryotherapy),or burning (cauterisation) the skin tag. Over-the-counter products, like creams or patches, are also available for self-removal, but it's crucial to follow instructions carefully and consult with a healthcare professional if you have any concerns or uncertainties. Additionally, seeking professional advice ensures proper assessment and appropriate removal methods for your specific situation. At BEAU toxicology, we can remove most skin tags.
